July 2015 Update

  • Jun 16, 2015

It’s been a few months since our last update so we figured it was about time to let everyone here know what we’re spending our days doing.

###Nomad

Kickstarter shipments are done!!! The final Kickstarter machine shipped a while ago so we’re now shipping out machines to everyone who preordered one in the past few months. The Nomads keep getting better as we make changes based on our production experience and customer feedback.

Meg, Crystal, and their team build each Nomad by hand in our California shop.

###Shapeoko

Shapeoko 3 machines continue to ship out in batches every week or two. Edward and his team in Illinios have the shipping down to a science so as soon as we get the parts in the shop, they ship completed kits within a few days.

Piles of Shapeokos waiting for a pickup and lots of parts ready for packing in our Illinois shop.

We’ve got a new manual in process and it looks great so far. We expect to be able to share it with everyone in the next few weeks.

We’ve ordered some test material to try making the router mounts in-house since the current vendor has been a source of delays lately. We’ll let everyone know if we end up deciding to do that.

###New Product Development

At the core, all of us at Carbide 3D love developing new products so we always have a few in various levels of completion.

We have the following items being finalized and heading for production:

  • A new high-end table for the Shapeoko 3. It may not be for everyone, but it’s awesome.
  • A small vacuum table for the Nomad.
  • A larger vacuum table for the Shapeoko 3.
  • The upgrade kit for a larger Shapeoko 3.

Say goodbye to MDF. We love this new table.

###Flip Jigs for the Nomad

Those of you who’ve been following our troubles in sourcing the material for the Flip Jigs will be happy to know that we got a batch in and they’re being machined now.

A number of Flip Jigs in various states of completion

###Carbide Motion

We’re beta testing a new release of Carbide Motion for Windows to resolve a number of Open GL errors that users have found. In a few days of testing it seems to have eliminated about 75% of the outstanding bug reports.

We’ve got one more fun update to it that we’re testing internally right now and we hope to share it in the next week.

###Support

The metrics in our help ticket system show that we continue to reply to more customers, more quickly each week. Edward and I are both data nerds so these are metics we look at all the time.

We’re still learning how to be efficient at support on this scale, but we’re committed to making it easy to buy and use a Shapeoko or Nomad.

###Lots more to come!!!

This is only a little of what we’ve got going on right now. We’ve got even bigger things to share in the coming weeks and months.
