Shapeoko 5 Pro Gas Strut Kit

Hardware for Gas Strut installation.

Tools required

  • 12 and 15mm (or 2x Adjustable) Wrenches
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Carbide 3D Tool Kit

Installation

  • Power on your Shapeoko 5 Pro.
  • Initialize machine.
  • Jog the machine and bring the gantry towards the front of the table for easier.
  • Power off the machine.
  • Unclip the ball retainer clip from around the base of the ball end of the gas strut.

  • Remove the retainer clip.
  • Remove the ball end from the strut.
  • With a 4mm hex key, remove the M6 plug screw from the left side of the Z-axis.
  • Thread the ball end of the strut into the hole.
  • Tighten with an adjustable or 12mm wrench.
  • Pre-thread the wire guide with a cable tie.
  • Using a 3mm hex key, fit the wire guide to the machined strut support using the provided M4x8 socket head cap screw.
Note: Cable tie not shown.
  • With a 3mm hex key, remove both M5 plug screws from the left side of the Z-axis and discard the plug screws.
  • Using a 3mm hex key and the two included M5x16 button head cap screws, secure the machined strut support to the left side of the front Z plate.
  • Lower the gas strut between the front and back plate of the Z-axis.
  • Snap the gas strut onto the ball end.
  • Secure the gas strut by re-fitting the retainer clip as it came off.
  • Gently compress the gas strut and slide the ball stud through the hole in the machined strut support.
  • Fit the washer and the precision nut.
  • Tighten with 12 mm and 15mm wrenches.
Gas Strut fully mounted to the Z-axis.
  • Secure your router or spindle cable to the wire guide, making sure there is still a little slack in the cable.
