CNC Mother of Pearl Jewelry

by Winston Moy

Our own Winston Moy made this necklace as a test for a customer who wanted to know how to cut mother of pearl.

From Winston-

We got a request from the jewelry world about the machinability of Mother of Pearl, so I whipped up this piece as a test. I hate cutting random geometry as test pieces because you just trash it at the end of the day. Not only does this little inlay piece look nice, but it demonstrates pretty good tolerances achieved in the material.

Winston held the mother of pearl blanks down with double-sided tape for machining.

Our 1/16" solid carbide cutter was used at 24,000 RPM a 500mm/minute feedrate.
